Why use Audio Visual Aids?
Why use Audio Visual Aids? They are potent motivators. They lend reality to the classroom teaching and link instruction with real life. Supply concrete basis for conceptual thinking. They develop interest in students. They make learning more permanent. They offer reality of experience that stimulates self activity on the part of student.
They help a continuity of thought (motion pictures) They provide right types of images. Which facilitate learning. They contribute new experiences adding to efficiency, depth and variety of learning. Technological media like the television and radio help in spreading education to remote areas They save time and make learning solid and durable.

Characteristics of A-V Aids:
Characteristics of A-V Aids They are means to end Valuable tricks to knit the pupils to learning , not means of entertainment. Extremely varied in devices. Not the substitute for the teacher nor the books. They make appeal to visual/auditory sense. Need proper explanation. Time of use should be clear to teacher. They save time.


They should be suited to the age intelligence and experience of pupils. Educational element should not be made subservient to the dramatic and spectacular element. They should present accurate and authentic material They should be concise as well as comprehensive. They may be prepared with the help of students. They should not be overused. Their use should be constantly evaluated.

Flannel board:
Flannel board Prepared by mounting a flannel cloth tightly on piece of plywood or hard board. Sand papers are pasted on the back of the pictures. This makes them stick on the flannel cloth. Various pictures, maps, sketches, graphs are displayed on it. These can be removed easily after using it.

The Overhead Projector:
The Overhead Projector The projected image is obtained behind and over the head of the instructor. The OHP reflects images coming from a powerful light that shines through a transparency on a screen by means of tilted, highly polished mirror and lens assembly. Advantages A large image is obtained in a minimum projection distance. Permits the instructor to face the class as he writes. Projected image can be seen in a lighted room also. Simple and convenient to operate. Low cost.

Charts:
Charts Objectives of charts: To visualize some principle or concept To show relationship between facts figures or statistics To summarize information To present abstract concepts in visual form. To show continuity in process. To create problems and stimulate thinking etc.

Important points to remember:
Important points to remember Clearly analyze the main theme in various relationships which are to be depicted in the chart. Visualization and illustration of ideas by rough sketches. Transferring rough sketches to chart. Coloring if necessary. Lettering the charts.

Making charts effective:
Making charts effective Teacher made charts should be preferred. Students should be involved. Should be large enough. Chart should display information only about one specific area Chart should not have too much of written material It should not have too many details. It should give neat appearance. Pointer should be used.

A Poster:
A Poster Posters are the graphic aids with short ,quick and typical messages with attention capturing paintings. It can be used for: Advertising an event or product Campaigning for a cause Giving a directive Popularizing a slogan Drawing attention towards desirable actions or values Giving a warning Popularizing a symbol or a sign propaganda

models:
models A models is a recognizable representation of real things three dimensionally i.e. height , width and depth are felt as reality. This makes the understanding of the things better and easy. Use of models become necessary because: The real thing may not be available in that season or may be away from the school. The real things may be too big or too small May be too dangerous to be felt or handled Real thing may be too expensive


Types of models: Solid models Cut-away, cross sectional Working models Advantages: Heighten reality of things make learning direct and meaningful Illustrate application side of certain principles and laws. Explain complex and intricate operations in a simplified way are lasing and cheaper. Still models are easy to make with discarded material Convenient to handle Involve more senses make; earning more effective

Objects and specimens:
Objects and specimens Collection of real things for instructional use refer to objects whereas specimen is any typical object representing a class or group of things. Characteristics: Impart direct learning experience Interesting educational experience. Makes learning realistic involve more senses. Motivating Develop observational skills.

Keep in mind:
Keep in mind Plan your teaching with certain simple and direct observation Ask questions Clarify and emphasize important structural details. Provide review and practice.
